Heading south along the Pagasitic Gulf coastal road, one takes a turning which follows a winding hilltop lane. Eventually one rounds the final corner and the staggeringly beautiful bay of Kalamos comes into view. One immediately knows that this is going to be the hoped for "away from it all holiday".
Kalamos is a village that stretches along two bays, the first a long ribbon of pebbled beach, the second more of a natural harbour. The water is marvelously clear and inviting and one cannot help but spend endless hours in those cooling waters.
There is little to do in Kalamos apart from relax. The walking in the immediate area is superb, following paths up into the mountains or along the coast. That aside, the choice is to take several good books and unwind amidst your picturesque surroundings.
