Kissos (Greek for Ivy), is a beautiful mountain village hidden the shade of the deep forest in an altitude of 500 meters above the sea level, and built between beeches and chestnut trees coiled by ivies, creating a feast of a totally green landscape.
Historically Kissos, between 1881 and 1912 used to be the center of a municipality including the boroughs of Agios loannis, Agios Dimitrios, Agios Konstantinos and the village of Anilio. In 1753, according to tradition, Rigas Feraios, taught at its school.
At the paved square, one can see the famous Basilica of Agia Marina, built in the 17th century, famous for its golden-platted iconostasis, made of hand curved linden, worked by. Three generations of artisans from Epirus. The famous artist from Epirus, loannis Pagonis, painted its hagiographies. The Byzantine icons of the church were donated by monks from Mount Athos. Because of its importance, the church of Agia Marina has been declared a landmark.
For the adventurers, Kissos is connected to the ski resort of Hania via a twelve kilometre mountain path. For the rest, Kissos is connected with frequent bus service to Volos and the nearby villages, Zagora, Horefto, Agios Ioannis, Tsagarada, Milies, Makrinitsa, Portaria, Hania.
