Anafi



Anafi is the island to get away from it all. It is a small and hilly island with friendly people and excellent beaches. It is a place for those who seek isolation, time to think. According to Mythology, Anafi rose from the sea at Apollo's command, to protect Jason and the Argonauts who were beset by a storm, on their return voyage in quest of the Golden Fleece. Anafi's Essentials

Getting There There are a few links with Piraeus a week via the route to Paros, Naxos, Ios, Sikinos, Folegandros, Santorini. There also daily trips from Santorini.	Getting Around On foot or caique. Walking, scenery is fabulous.
Beaches Kalamos Beautiful sandy beach. Klisidi Tree backed lovely beach. Close to harbour. Roukounas Excellent sandy beach with shade.

Touring Anafi

(2 Km from the port) the island's capital is a typical Cycladic village, truly unspoiled and above of it there are remains of a 14th century Venetian castle. There are rooms to let, a tourist shop, and taverns.

Rest of the Island

The Monastery of Zoodohos Pigi was build in 1800s. A large part of the Monastery was destroyed in the 1956 earthquake. Monastery of Panagia Kalamiotisa is astonishingly perched on the eastern peninsula. The Monastery was named so, after an icon of the Virgin Mary was found hanging on a cane (kalami = cane). Very close to the Monastery are the remains of the Temple of Apollo. Agios Nikolaos is the port and the busiest part of the island, with a few taverns, rooms to let and a tourist agency.
