Hora, Serifos Greece Serifos is a typical Cycladic island with white villages, quiet harbours, golden beaches, bare hills and beautiful landscapes. The island has a unique atmosphere, it is ideal for a relaxed holiday. The mild tourism growth has not affected the island's nature and traditional features.

According to Mythology, Serifos was the home to the hero Perseus who cut off the head of the Gorgon Medusa - the only mortal of the three Gorgon sisters who had living snakes for hair and glance which turned men to stone.

    There are frequent ferry and speed boat links with Piraeus. Serifos is also connected with Kythnos, Sifnos, Kimolos, Milos via the Western Cyclades ferry route. Serifos is also connected with many Cyclades islands.

  • Getting Around

    A bus service runs between the port Livadi and the capital of the Island Hora. Cars and motor bikes are available for hire.
    Taxis are also available.

Touring Serifos

Hora
Serifos Hora the island's capital with the 15th century Venetian castle, is a beautiful and attractive dazzling white washed village on a steep hillside. Many of the medieval cube shaped houses are now homes for Greek artists and architects. Hora offers breathtaking views and the scenery to the island and the sea is magnificent. The village is divided into two districts, Epano Hora and Kato Hora. In Epano Hora the square with the Town Hall and the churches of Agios Ioannis and Agios Athanassios are places for a visit. In Hora there is also a small Archaeological Museum.

Galani
Is a nice village with the fortified Moni (Monastery) of Taxiarchon. The Monastery was built in 1500 and contains 18th century frescoes and Byzantine manuscripts. Not far from Galani is the 10th century church of Panagia.

Livadi
the island's port, set in a wide bay with a tree fringed sandy beach. There are plenty of hotels, rooms to let and tavernas available, and is handy for the nearby beaches. Livadi is the home of most Serifos' facilities.

Livadakia
Western to the port is Livadakia bay, an expansion of Livadi. It has a secluded sandy beach, a campsite, water sport facilities and tavernas.
