Kythnos or Thermia is an unspoiled and very Greek Island in every aspect. It mostly attracts Greek tourists, locals are very friendly and life is slow. The island is quiet and offers some nice and empty sandy beaches. Kythnos was an icon painting center in 17th century, led by Skordillis family.

Loutra resort in Kythnos has warm sulphurous spa-waters. The tradition says that the water comes undersea from Vesuvious and the springs have been used since ancient times -and still are used- as a cure from rheumatism.

Hora (Kythnos Town)
the island's capital (also known as Messaria) is clustered around the seventeeth century Churches of Agios Savvas which founded by Venetians and Metamorphosis. Hora is an authentic and simple white washed place with a few tavernas and cafes. Agia Triada church is the oldest in Hora and Agios Prodromos is worth for a visit for its 17-century screen.
Dryopida
the old capital if the island, is a hill village built around Katafiki cave and offers fine sea views. Around the village there are several windmills. Dryopida was once known for its potters, but today only one potter remains. Agios Minas church has an excellent 17th century iconstasis and bishop's throne.
Loutra
is the island's traditional resort with warm surphurous spa-waters, a hydrotherapy centre and plenty of tavernas, rooms to let and a hotel with cure baths. Tradition says that the water comes undersea from Vesuvious and the springs of Kakavos and Agioi Anargyri have been used since ancient times as a cure from rheumatism, even gynaecological problems. Nothing has been changed since, and every summer plenty of people are visiting the place for cure. Close to Loutra was found the oldest known settlement of Cyclades dated back to 7000-6000BC. In Loutra there is a sandy beach and close by is Agia Irini, a beach with pebbles.
Merihas
the port on the west coast, is situated around the three sides of a small bay with a tree fringed beach. Merihas has a small marina and a few tavernas, rooms to let and a hotel. North from Merihas is the popular sandy beach of Martinakia.
Kanala
resort is situated around the Monastery dedicated to Panagia (Virgin Mary) Kanala, Kythnos' patron saint. The Monastery houses island's venerated icon of Virgin Mary. Kanala has a nice sandy beach, taverna and rooms to let, while the nearby bays offer good sandy beaches. The main one is ideal for kids, with no cars or traffic around. In Kanala there is a pine wood, the only one in Cyclades.
