CRETE
Crete (or Kriti in Greek) is the largest of the Greek islands and the fifth largest in the Mediterranean. It is the land of Ikarus and Daidalos and the first European civilisation, the Minoan civilization. It is the island where Zeus was born and where he felt in love with Europa. It is the birthplace of King Minos, Dominicos Theotokopoulos (El Greco), Vicenzos Cornaros, Eleftherios Venizelos, Odysseas Elytis and many other famous persons.
Crete is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Greece. Crete is connected -by sea- to the other parts of Greece, from five ports, at the North of the island: Heraklion, Chania, Rethymno, Agios Nikolaos and Sitia.
In Crete there are two international airports, at Chania and Heraklion and one smaller at Sitia in Lassithi Prefecture.
